TORONTO, October 16, 2018 –
Today on World Food Day, Dempster’s is donating more than 15,500 slices of bread to the North York Harvest Food Bank as part of its Global Energy Race pledge to help nourish Canadians in need and eliminate hunger in our communities. On September 23, more than 1,500 participants took part in the Global Energy Race by Dempster’s, a family-focused event celebrating healthy living, physical activity and giving back to local communities.
“We are proud of the Dempster’s products baked in Canada. They are made by Canadians for Canadians, with Canadian wheat flour and 100 per cent Canadian values baked in,” says Heather Crees, Vice President, Marketing. “More than 860,000 Canadians nationwide use food banks every month. As a proud Canadian brand, this reality has encouraged us to find a positive solution to hunger through ongoing food bank donations and initiatives like the Global Energy Race by Dempster’s.”
Thanks to the participation of thousands of runners, walkers and families, Dempster’s is making a positive impact on the country it’s proud to call home. As part of Dempster’s annual Global Energy Race initiative, more than 55,000 slices of bread have been donated to local Canadian food banks to date.
Globally, as a proud member of Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest baking company, more than 1.4 million slices of bread are being donated to food banks around the world as part of the Global Energy Race that gathered more than 110,000 participants and was hosted in 23 countries.
In Canada, Dempster’s continues to support local community organizations and provide nutritious and delicious food for all through ongoing food security programs such as Buy a Lunch, Give a Lunch, in which Dempster’s has donated 111,000 loaves of bread to Canadians in need through Food Banks Canada.
